Hey everyone, and welcome to my new travel blog! With lots of upcoming travels in 2012, I thought this would be a great way for friends, family, and more to stay in touch and see what I’m up to while I’m away.
For the first leg of my travels in 2012, I’m very excited to be part of the Jed Levy Quartet, which was selected by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the US State Department for the 2011 Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad program. We were one of only ten groups selected for this prestigious musical and cultural outreach program, so this is no small distinction; I speak for all of us when I say that we are honored to be following in the footsteps of such greats as Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong and others in bringing this great American music called jazz to the world. Not only will we be performing at concerts, festivals, and other public performances, but we will also be conducting educational outreach programs and bringing our music into schools and areas that would not have such opportunities otherwise. As such, we look forward to using music as a positive force to cultivate cultural connections wherever we go.

Our itinerary begins in mid January where we will be traveling to our first stop in Panama for the Panama Jazz Festival and more. From there, we will head to Haiti for the Port au Prince Jazz Festival and then into the countryside to conduct workshops at local schools. Following that, there’s lots more to come in Mexico, Venezuela, and Peru. I am definitely excited to be seeing these countries (many for the first time) and performing with such a great set of musicians and friends; and I look forward to meeting lots of great musicians, audiences, students and more in our travels. Stay tuned for pictures, updates, and more!
